I am not in Italy now. In fact, I haven’t been there since I was in my twenties! And that seems like a long time ago. But when I want to take a trip down memory lane, I just pull out my old photos.

Look at this beautiful sign! Why is it so nice? I’m a graphic designer and even I don’t know! It has three different fonts (thus breaking the Only Two Typefaces in One Project rule), has terrible alignment, not great kerning (space between the letters), etc. And yet somehow it is perfect, perfect, perfect. On a larger scale, this is a nice metaphor. It would be nice to think that despite our individual flaws, each one of us is able to add up to something spectacular… more than the sum of our parts. Here I am in danger of becoming sentimental and quoting Bruno Mars, so I will stop.

But on a side note, I did enjoy seeing Sting and Bruno Mars perform together at the Grammys.  (zero dislikes on this YouTube video? Is this an internet first? Have I found the key to bringing Israel and Palestine together? A peace summit hosted by Sting, Bruno Mars, Rihanna, and Ziggy Marley?)

How did this come about??

“Hey Sting, do you know that kid who wrote ‘Locked out of Heaven’,  which totally sounds like like the Police?”

(with polite British accent) “Yes?”

“Want to do some guest vocals for him?”
